CHICHEN ITZA

This is the observatory at Chichen Itza, the astronomy that had to have been known is incredible. This is where 10s of thousand gather on the equinoxes to observe how the shadows and light line up on these days.

This is called the "Temple of the Warriors" They figure there are 2000 pillars surrounding the temple. That's an interesting number of warriors! And there's one more right in front. On April 6th, the sun rises right in the middle of the center of the two top posts over this temple.
This is the main edifice at Chichen Itza and twice a year at the equinox, the shadows of the steps fall against the building in the form of a snake and at the bottom or head of the snake, it is the bearded snake - something they worshipped. Interesting!
This is a peice of one of the statues from the head of the snake.
